Miss “Lupita” (diminutive for Guadalupe) dolls, with origins in the late colonial to early independence period of Mexico.
This papier-mâché technique is called cartonería. This doll has clothes painted in a style that looks like an old-fashion bathing suit and has glitter earrings and necklaces modeled after circus trapeze performers. The circus was very popular in Mexico at that time.
Today they are made only by certain artisans’ workshops in the city of Celaya, as collectors’ items. - Measurements: 12” - Movable legs and arms.
