It's a semi-dwarf tree, reaching about 6 feet, while standard varieties can reach 8 feet. It is known for its sweet skin and tart, spicy flesh. The flowering season is in summer, and the fruits mature in late winter. The fruit is small, round to oblong, orange-skinned, with a thick, sweet rind and comparatively sweet pulp. Many fruits are seedless, and others have a low seed content. Meiwa kumquats are more cold hardy than other citrus varieties, able to withstand temperatures as low as 18¡F. It requires full sun and well-draining soil, and can be grown in containers. It's very ornamental due to its many blossoms and abundance of bright orange fruits.
