The Zoom PodTrak P4next is a compact podcast recorder built for round-table recording, remote guests, and live streaming. It combines four XLR microphone inputs, four headphone outputs with individual volume controls, built-in voice processing (tone shaping, compression, and AI noise reduction), and one-touch sound pads for intros, jingles, and effects. It can record directly to a microSD card in 48 kHz / 24-bit WAV, or function as a 12-in / 2-out USB audio interface for computers and mobile devices.
Four XLR mic inputs with up to +70 dB gain (supports demanding dynamic mics)
+48V phantom power available for condenser microphones
Four independent headphone outputs with dedicated volume knobs
AI Noise Reduction, Tone, and Compressor controls for voice clarity and consistency
Four sound pads for triggering built-in sounds or loading/recording your own
Records a stereo mix plus isolated tracks for detailed editing
Remote guest support by phone (TRRS) or Bluetooth (requires optional adapter), with built-in mix-minus behavior to reduce echo
Voice guidance that provides audible menu feedback through headphones
Runs on 2 AA batteries or USB power (AC adapter, battery bank, or bus power)
This section is written for quick “hands-on” orientation—what’s where and what it does.
Power button: turns the unit on/off.
Record button: starts/stops recording.
Play/Pause button: plays/pauses the most recently recorded file; can also pause recording and/or add a mark depending on settings.
OLED display: shows meters, status, and menu screens.
Operation buttons A–D (Sound Pad A–D):
Tap to trigger assigned sounds.
In playback, these also provide transport functions (beginning, skip back/forward, stop).
Operation buttons 1–4:
Menu/Back plus direct toggles for Tone, Compressor, and AI Noise Reduction from the Home screen.
Press-and-hold on Menu/Back toggles voice guidance.
MUTE 1–4 buttons: quickly mute any mic channel to prevent unwanted noise.
INPUT LEVEL 1–4 knobs: adjust each mic input level.
HEADPHONE VOLUME 1–4 knobs: adjust each headphone output level independently.
Headphone jacks 1–4 (3.5 mm stereo): connect up to four sets of headphones.
INPUT 1–4 (XLR): four mic inputs with built-in preamps. One mic per person is the intended workflow.
48V switch: enables +48V phantom power for the XLR mic inputs.
microSD card slot: insert a card for recording.
USB (DC5V) power port (USB-C): power from an AC adapter or portable battery.
USB port (USB-C, data): use as an audio interface and for file transfer; also supports USB bus power.
Power connector for the optional Bluetooth adapter: provides power when using the dedicated wireless adapter.
Smartphone connection jack (TRRS):
Phone guest audio can be brought in on channel 4.
The unit sends a return mix back to the phone excluding channel 4, which helps avoid the caller hearing an echo.
INPUT switch: selects what feeds channel 4 (either the XLR input 4 or the smartphone/TRRS input).
Battery compartment cover: access for two AA batteries.
The P4next is designed to give you a fast “publishable” stereo mix while also providing isolated tracks for post-production.
Recording format: 48 kHz / 24-bit WAV (stereo/mono as applicable).
Recording approach:
Saves a stereo master mix.
Can also save individual channel files for more detailed editing later.
Maximum simultaneous recording tracks: 11
Maximum simultaneous playback tracks: 2
Storage: records to microSDHC / microSDXC cards.
When connected by USB-C, the P4next can act as a multichannel audio interface:
USB audio interface I/O: 12 inputs / 2 outputs
Audio: 48 kHz / 24-bit
This is useful for livestreaming, screen recordings, and DAW workflows where you want clean microphone capture and simple monitoring.
Remote participation can be handled in multiple ways:
TRRS phone connection: bring in a caller on channel 4 with a return mix that avoids sending the caller their own audio back.
Bluetooth: supported via an optional adapter (separate accessory).
USB mix-minus: configurable behavior when using the P4next as an interface to reduce feedback for remote participants.
The P4next includes quick-access processing designed for spoken word:
Tone: adds polish to the voice (including EQ/de-essing style shaping).
Compressor: keeps levels more consistent through laughter, whispers, and sudden volume changes.
AI Noise Reduction: reduces steady environmental noise (hums, buzzes, ambient noise).
The P4next includes voice guidance that outputs audible descriptions through connected headphones to assist with navigating menus and settings.
Power: 2× AA batteries (alkaline, lithium, or rechargeable NiMH), or USB power (AC adapter, battery bank, or bus power).
Power source priority: USB (DC5V) power port → USB data port → batteries.
