The Weaver Leather Buckstitch Single Ear Headstall is what you reach for when your horse is finished and responsive — a clean, streamlined design that lets your hands do the talking. Handcrafted from Hermann Oak® leather with genuine deerskin buckstitch accents and custom floral hardware, this headstall delivers that broken-in feel right out of the package while holding up to the demands of daily arena work.
Whether you're training reiners, competing in cutting, or running barrels, this single ear design eliminates bulk at the poll and keeps everything in place without a throatlatch. It's sized for standard horses (800–1,200 lbs) with ample buckle adjustment to dial in the perfect bit position.
Western performance riders with finished horses looking for a durable, minimalist headstall for curb bits in reining, cutting, or barrel racing.
Technically yes, but it's really designed for curb or shanked bits. Without a throatlatch or browband, this single ear style works best on well-trained horses that are light in the bridle and won't fight the bit. If your horse is still green or tends to toss their head, you'll want a browband headstall for added security.
This is a Standard Horse size, which fits most horses between 800 and 1,200 lbs. When you're fitting it, use the two-finger rule at the ear slit — you want it snug enough to stay put during work, but loose enough that it's not pinching at the base of the ear. The cheekpieces have plenty of buckle holes to adjust bit height.
Absolutely. Hermann Oak is the gold standard for western tack — it's vegetable-tanned in the U.S., which gives it that supple, broke-in feel right away while staying tough enough to handle sweat, weather, and daily use. This headstall won't go stiff or crack the way cheaper leather does, and it'll darken into a beautiful patina over time.
