Robert Zlomke's set of two benches in red oak with mahogany accents. The longer bench measures 45 inches long by 17.5 inches high, the smaller bench measures 20 inches by 17.5 inches. Both benches have a curve to the tops and range from 12.55 inches deep at the narrowest end to 14.75 inches deep at the wider end.

About this design Robert says:

It was June 2012, in the early days of our work with the Highlight Gallery, when we first brought in a newly designed bench for display in the gallery. 

Our initial description of the piece ran like this:

 Curved edges and accent lines fluidly mark the front legs of this bench, which seems to be putting one foot down while preparing to lift the other.  Sturdy exposed joinery;  seat front edge is hand beveled at a constantly changing angle.

 At the time this was a new design for us, and we didn't know if we would be making any more of them.  However, there was something about the dynamic asymmetry of the two front legs that was hard to ignore.  The bench appeared to be on its jaunty way somewhere and proved to be a cheerful adornment to a room, and we came back to this design several times.

 The next iteration of the walking bench idea was as an asymmetrical pair of benches, which could be lined up or arranged separately, according to practical considerations or the mood you're in.  These pieces have forthright curves and unexpected angles that create a feeling of movement.  This is furniture that does not sit there and sog, but these walking benches are on their way somewhere.
